Service Description

Certain health conditions (such as recent surgery, diabetes, cancer treatments that involve removal of the lymph nodes, infection, and trauma) can cause fluid to back up in the body. This specialized medical massage has a very light touch that encourages the natural drainage of the lymph fluid, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart so that it can be released from the body. This massage decongests the lymphatic pathways as it enhances the immune system as it removes bacteria, viruses, cancer cells and dead cells from the body, improves nutrition to the tissues, and increases tissue metabolism. Lymphatic drainage massage, done correctly with very light touch, stimulates the opening of the initial lymphatic and increases the volume of lymph flow by as much as 20 times. If too much pressure is used, it will collapse the lymph vessels, diminishing the lymph flow. Excessive pressure can even break the filaments that hold the initial lymphatic in place. This is one reason that deep styles of massage are contraindicated in areas of edema. However, if deep pressure has broken any filaments, they usually reform within 24 hours. NOTE: This type of massage may not be suitable or safe if you have any of the following conditions: * Heart disease * Cellulitis (bacterial skin infection) * Thrombosis * Phlebitis * Acute inflammation caused by bacteria, viruses, poisons or allergens
